30 Rock

30 Rock
What happens when a favorite sitcoms looses its mind and turns into a reality show? Award winning sitcom 30 Rock answers that very question, dropping a bomb with its recent episode entitled “The Queen of Jordan.”

The episode follows the taping of a reality television program for Bravo. Cameras follow around Angie Jordan, played by Sherri Shepherd, and her crew of misfits while they throw wine in people’s faces and gossip about each other. As star of a hit program and wife of the missing Tracy Jordan, Angie feels a certain entitlement and lets everyone know it. This Includes Jack Donaghy an NBC/ Kabletown executive played by Alec Baldwin. Jack asks Tina Fey’s character Liz Lemmon to help deal with Angie and get Tracy back from his sabbatical in Africa.

As the episode progresses, we watch Jack humiliate himself in front of the reality television cameras with fart gags, gay jokes, and pratfalls. We also get to watch Liz Lemmon, who is generally the center of the show, get pushed off to the side in order for the cast of Queen of Jordan to take center stage.

The two other story lines involved wine being throw in everyone’s face (including a dog’s) a fake intervention, and an odd love match. Jane Krakowski’s character Jenna, plans a fake intervention that goes wrong. In the end Jenna is forced to hide out with a bottle of wine or be sent away to a treatment center. There is a strangely funny guest appearance by Susan Sarandon which has her playing a Mary Kay Letourneau type teacher who had an infamous relationship with Frank Rossitano, one of the writers for TGS.

Perhaps this episode was a statement by the writers of 30 Rock about the Housewives of (insert city of choice) or they were trying something new since Tracy Morgan AKA Tracy Jordan is out for health reasons. Who really knows? Whatever the case, this episode might spark the interest of reality TV fans and put a smile on their faces. But for fans of 30 Rock, this episode was not their best of the season. If you don’t enjoy watching reality train wrecks, then maybe you’ll have to wait for next week’s episode for a laugh.

30 Rock tried something new, and although there were some funny things about the episode entitled “The Queen of Jordan,” for the most part a little bit of some of these characters went a long way.
