2% of Americans Now 100+ Pounds Overweight
A new study has found at about 1 in every 50 adults is over 100 pounds overweight - bringing huge medical problems and shorter lifespans as a result.

The studies were done by the RAND corporation and found that in 1986, only 1 in 200 adults were 100 pounds overweight. By the year 2000, that ratio had quadrupled to 1 in 50. This increase came even though those 14 years were full of low fat foods and low fat diets. There are more healthy foods than ever on the market - but people are choosing to eat unhealthily.

Researchers feel that even the 1 in 50 is probably low, because many people in surveys tend to underestimate how much they weigh. Recent studies done with actual doctor measurements found that almost 1 in 3 adults in America is now obese.

A Body Mass Indicator - or BMI - of 25-30 is considered overweight; a BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese. If you want to know what your BMI is, use the calculator linked to below.
