A Quilters Wish - Christmas Poem

A Quilters Wish - Christmas Poem
Every year about this time, I like to create a poem, sometimes to a tune that is familiar, sometimes not. This one can be sung to the Australian Christmas Carol "Six White Boomers". Don't worry if you don't know it, it makes sense if you speak it too.

A Quilters Wish

Early on one Christmas Eve, A quilter just like me
Was fiercely quilting gifts for her loving family
“I’ve got to get these finished, and put them with the tree
I’ve had all year to do this; I’m my own worst enemy”

That’s us quilters, worldwide quilters
Racing to complete all the gifts on time
Us wise quilters, sooo bright quilters
Did the same thing last year, it’s a bleeding crime!

Sally wants a patchwork bag, with all the bells and whistles
With room for all her beauty things and brush with stiff black bristles
The bag is almost finished, just the buttons next to thread
Oh no, I’ve left the handles off, I’ll never get to bed!!

That’s us quilters, worldwide quilters
Racing to complete all the gifts on time
Us wise quilters, sooo bright quilters
Did the same thing last year, it’s a bleeding crime!

Billy wants a patchwork tent, to set up in the yard
One with bright red ties, it wasn’t very hard
The tent is hemmed, the ties are finished, just pack it with the pegs
Oh no, I’ve cut the tent too short, wish he had short legs.

That’s us quilters, worldwide quilters
Racing to complete all the gifts on time
Us wise quilters, sooo bright quilters
Did the same thing last year, it’s a bleeding crime!

My darling wants a “Mans Quilt” to hang up in his study
He wants a gorgeous stunner, not a silly fuddy-duddy
I’ve sourced a wall quilt pattern, the study to enhance
It’s got a million pieces, he doesn’t stand a chance!

That’s us quilters, worldwide quilters
Racing to complete all the gifts on time
Us wise quilters, sooo bright quilters
Did the same thing last year, it’s a bleeding crime!

What do we as quilters, need to help to get things right
And stop the need to work away, so deep into the night
If I know quilters, like I know me, the thing we’d all like best
Is another 12 months to get things done, what you’re thinking that I jest?

That’s us quilters, worldwide quilters
Racing to complete all the gifts on time
Us wise quilters, sooo bright quilters
Did the same thing last year, it’s a bleeding crime!

We would manage so much better, with another day or week
Perhaps a year with 14 months, that’s sense you start to speak
And maybe two more hours could be added to each day
That’s not much to ask, a bit more time, come on, what do ya say?

That’s us quilters, worldwide quilters
Racing to complete all the gifts on time
Us wise quilters, sooo bright quilters
Let’s think ahead and get them done, that would suit us fine!!
