Streetwise Spanish Review
Streetwise Spanish by Peter Christian

Streetwise Spanish – Confidently plug-in to the language and culture of the Spanish speaking world, with this new language book by Peter Christian.

Christian walks us through the minefield of the Spanish language in this large format 163 page book. Christian himself made many mistake in his learning of the Spanish language and has put them all together in this resource.

It’s not a traditional textbook or phrase book but a first-person mixture of the two. You’ll be able to walk the streets confidently using the appropriate phrase. Work your way through the book and with more and more confidence you’ll find the right thing to say at the right time.

Streetwise Spanish is broken up into ten chapters –

Introduction
Capítulo Uno – Finding Your Way
Capítulo Dos – Staying Safe and Sound
Capítulo Tres – La Vida Diaria (Daily Life)
Capítulo Cuarto – La Gente (The People)
Capítulo Cinco – Let’s Talk Shop
Capítulo Seis – La Buena Mesa (The Good Table)
Capítulo Siete – Quench Your Thirst
Capítulo Ocho – El Juego de Amor (The Love Game)
Capítulo Nueve – En Emergencia (In an Emergency)
Capítulo Diez – Por el Amor de Dios (For the love of God)
Fin – Tiempo de Irme (Time for me to Go)

The translations in brackets I’ve added myself as the mix of English and Spanish is at times confusing.

Each chapter of the book come with paragraphs that integrate Spanish words, sometimes you need to guess and sometimes they are in the vocabulary list at the end of each chapter.

For a streetwise book its large A4 format makes it difficult to carry around with you and finding a particular word is difficult unless you can remember which chapter it featured in.

This is book is obviously written by a young person as at times there are insulting remarks to the over 40s, of which I’m one!

It’s a fun book, with a different style to most that will appeal to many and encourage the use of the language. As Christian points out we all make mistakes in the early days, use the mistakes and keep on going language
learning is fun. This book is fun.
