New Life For A Tired Hair Style

New Life For A Tired Hair Style
This week´s hair challenge: How do I liven up a tired hair style?.
I am often asked to do this without changing the haircut and without causing a long-term commitment.
My answer for breathing life into that style? A highlight or color weaving.

The following are a few of the variations.
Subtle highlights, lightly done, will give you a "sun kissed" look.

This is accomplished by choosing a shade no more than two shades lighter than your own hair color and in a slightly golden tone.
If your natural shade is very dark, the highlights will be brown or red, giving an attractive contrast.

Color weaving can be used if you have gray hair and want to put some of your original color back in. Instead of using a lightening preparation,
a tint is applied to return your hair to its natural shade. In this instance, it is better to either place the strands evenly over the entire head or mainly toward the back, leaving more gray hair around the face.

If gray hair is not a problem, Color weaving is a good choice to add warmth or depth to your natural hair color.

Discuss the color choice with your hairdresser who will undoubtedly have several interesting suggestions as to the tones compliment your complexion.

An experienced professional, using foil, paper or a plastic wrap to separate the sections or a specially designed cap, will always give you the most natural and attractive color enhancement.

However, if you choose to do the procedure on your own, you will find highlighting caps available at the store. The hair is pulled though the holes in the cap with a crochet hook. I suggest a small size hook that can be found in the sewing notions department of any fabric store. Even with a very small hook, you must be careful to pull only small strands of hair through the cap.
Before putting the cap on, brush your hair to remove any tangles and let it fall naturally. You may use all the holes in the cap or choose to highlight only the top and around your face. This gives you a very natural look.

When the amount of hair pulled through the cap is satisfactory and appears evenly distributed, apply the highlighting or tinting preparation and time according to manufacturers suggestions. Remember, timing that is too long may give highlights that appear gray or in the case of dark hair, may be too light and appear unnatural or brassy.
