Wine Glass Luminaria

Wine Glass Luminaria

Outline stickers are often gold or silver in color and are sold in sheets. They can be used to add effects like embossing, faux stained glass and paper cutting to a project. Using outline stickers on a white background with the spaces colored in is a popular technique among paper crafters. But even without coloring the spaces, you can get lovely results with an outline sticker on a plain background, as shown in this simple project – a vellum shade designed for a wine glass candle holder, with floral outline stickers for accents.

You will need:

* Wine glass or water goblet
* Small floating candle
* Vellum sheet, letter or A4 size
* Outline stickers
* Metallic marker (optional)
* Glue runner or double-sided adhesive tape
* Sheet of scrap paper for pattern, letter or A4 size
* Compass
* Pencil
* Straight edge scissors
* Decorative scissors

On a sheet of scrap paper, draw a circle that's 10-1/2 inches in diameter with a compass. Using the same center point, draw a smaller circle measuring 4 inches in diameter inside it. Cut out the circles using the straight edge scissors so that you end up with a doughnut shape. Cut the doughnut shape in half. This will be the pattern for the shade. Bring the flat ends of the pattern together and overlap them, aligning the top and bottom edges and adjusting the upper opening of the shade so that it sits atop the rim of the wine glass or water goblet. You may want to trim one end of the pattern so that the overlap isn't very wide.

Trace the pattern onto the sheet of vellum, and cut the vellum using decorative scissors. Carefully peel off the outline stickers and adhere them to the shade. At this point, you may want to ink the edges of the shade with a metallic marker. Glue the ends of the shade together using a glue runner or double sided adhesive tape. The shade is done!

To use the shade, fill the wine glass or goblet halfway with water. Float the candle in the water, and light the candle using a long match or uncooked spaghetti that's been lighted. Set the shade on top of the wine glass or water goblet.

Remember to never leave lighted candles unattended!
