American Hustle

American Hustle
Irving Rosenfeld is a successful businessman who also happens to be a con artist. A whole new world opens up for him when he joins forces with Sydney Prosser, both personally and professionally. Things go well for the pair as they swindle people out of their money but they find themselves in hot water when they come across Richie DiMaso who’s trying to make a name for himself as a federal agent. The two find themselves working undercover for DiMaso, trying to build a case of corruption against New Jersey powerbrokers, congressmen and the mafia. But Irving’s wife, Rosalyn, could prove to be the undoing of the plot. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “American Hustle”.

∙ When Richie and Irving are arguing at the beginning of the movie, Richie reaches over and messes up Irving’s hair. The rear and left side views of Sydney shows she’s only holding up her index finger on her left hand. But when it cuts to the front view of her when she says “you shouldn’t touch him,” all fingers are pointed out. It cuts back to the side view and it’s back to the index finger. Also, during this scene, there is a briefcase on a table next to the wall. The briefcase is partially open. But when Richie walks over to it, he’s heard flipping the latches before he opens it.

∙ At the beginning of the movie, it indicates that it’s April 28th, 1978 at the Plaza Hotel. When Richie, Irving and Sydney sit down with Carmine and Carl, it flashes to a camera monitor that shows the date as April 26th, 1978.

∙ Richie jumps off the couch when Carmine and Carl storm out of the room. The pillow near the arm where he was sitting can be seen falling over. Richie and Irving argue (again!). Irving leaves and the close-up of Sydney shows the pillow in the background, sitting upright against the arm of the chair.

∙ Irving and Sydney are in the “vault” at the dry cleaners, trying on different outfits. She convinces him to take off his dark colored jacket and try on one that had red, gold and brown designs. He’s still wearing the jacket when he puts the fur coat on her. But in the close-up, when he’s holding her from behind with his head on her shoulder, he’s wearing the original, dark colored jacket. It’s back to the multi colored one a few seconds later.

∙ Rosalyn argues with Irving after he’s attacked by Pete. She mentions reading Wayne Dyer’s book, “Power of Intention”. But the book was actually first published July 1st, 2004 (as shown on Goodreads).

“American Hustle” (2013) stars Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert DeNiro and Jack Huston. It runs 138 minutes and is rated R for pervasive language, some sexual content and brief violence.
