Sin City

Sin City
There are plenty of things happening in the shady place known as Basin City. There’s Marv who’s been framed for the murder of his sweetheart Goldie; tough former cop Hartigan is bent on keeping Nancy Callahan safe from paroled felon; and then there’s Dwight who’s evening isn’t going so well after a run in with Jackie Boy and Gail. Will anyone be able to make it through the sinister Sin City? Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching this action packed venture based on the graphic novels by Frank Miller.

∙ Lucille tosses a bottle of pills to Marv and he catches them in his left hand. It cuts to a close-up view and Marv is holding the bottle in his right hand with his cigarette.

∙ Marv regains consciousness and is being held prisoner along with Lucille by Kevin. There are three distinct cuts on Marv’s face that run from left to right / horizontally. They’re still there when Marv breaks the bars out of the wall. But when he says “let’s go”, the cuts run up and down / vertically.

∙ Hartigan walks into the bar after getting out of prison. The view of Nancy shows she isn’t wearing gloves when she dances. But later in the scene, when Nancy is finishing her dance routine, she suddenly has gloves on.

∙ Hartigan and Nancy leave the bar and are being chased by Junior who’s now yellow and deformed. Hartigan has the car door open, shooting at Junior in the car behind them. After Junior’s car crashes and flips over, the overhead view of Nancy’s car shows the passenger door is closed. It cuts to a close-up view and Hartigan is climbing back in his seat and shuts the open car door.

∙ Gail has been captured and tied up by Manute. The rope circles Gail’s neck and catches her left earring, holding it close to her neck. (This is more noticeable when she says “Becky”.) In the following views of Gail, when she tells Becky that they could have protected her mom, her earring is dangling from her ear, away from the rope.

“Sin City” stars Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Clive Owen, Mickey Rourke, Elijah Wood, Alexis Bledel, Powers Booth, Rosario Dawson, Benicio Del Toro, Michael Clarke Duncan and Brittany Murphy. It runs 124 minutes and is rated R for sustained strong stylized violence, nudity and sexual content including dialogue.
