1865 - Union forces captured the Confederate stronghold and capital at Richmond, Virginia during the Civil War.

1948 - President Harry S. Truman signed the Marshall Plan which provided aide to a number of foreign countries.

1973 - The first cell phone call occurred today.

1996 - Theodore Kaczynski was arrested for being the Unabomber.
