Product Review – Adobe's Macromedia Contribute 3 - 2

Besides improved rendering of HTML and CSS styles in the editor, this latest version has better integration with word applications such as Microsoft Word, ExcelR and PowerPointR. For those of you who like to compose your document in Word before placing it into a webpage, you will appreciate that the style formatting will transfer from Word to Contribute. Contribute also has preinstalled sample templates for those times when you need to create a new webpage. Since the webpages are not stored on your computer but remain on the web server, how will you keep track of all your changes? The Draft Console comes to your rescue. It will show you a list of the webpages you are editing and reviewing, a list of your drafts and a list of those pages sent for approval. If you have many people working on different parts of a website, you will probably have one person in charge and Contribute helps with these administrative duties. For example, there may be images, code snippets or Flash and Dreamweaver items that are used by several people in your group. Instead of giving each a copy, it is much easier to keep one copy in a central location. From the Administer Website Dialog Box, you can add, edit or remove these common components from the central location called a Shared Assets List. From this same dialog box, you can complete other administrative tasks such a controlling the permissions for each person in your group, setting passwords, configuring web server settings and managing rollback files. ← Back AdobeR product screen shot(s) reprinted with permission from Adobe Systems Incorporated.
