Ethiopia Shuts Coffee Warehouses

Ethiopia, the country where coffee was first discovered, was in the news this week. It seems that the government suspected six of their largest exporters of hoarding beans while waiting for prices to rise which is illegal. According to the article, the exporters’ licenses have been suspended and they have been given five days to appeal their case. The exporters deny any wrong doing.

Krispy Kreme Sells Five Cent Coffee

Krispy Kreme stores out west featured a depression era pricing promotion on coffee this week. "It's our way of giving people something to feel good about at a time when people need something to feel good about," said Gerard Centioli, CEO of Icon LLC in Seattle, which co-owns (with Krispy Kreme) 12 stores in the Northwest and Hawaii.”

Krispy Kreme does not depend on coffee sales for the bulk of their profits, but the coffee encourages donut sales too.

Does the above headline tell you how important coffee is? Boston Marathon runner Jenny Hitchings’ early morning coffee and eating habits were in the spotlight this week. I am totally in sync with her, knowing that my morning coffee comes before my exercise session. Well, actually, my morning coffee comes before anything.



Reluctantly, Missouri Reps Give Up Free Coffee

Here is yet another article that lets you know that coffee rules. To the Missouri Reps, their free coffee was more important than health care for low income children with autism. “The GOP-dominated House appeared on the verge of voting down the amendment. But leaders, seeing a public relations debacle in the making, told GOP lawmakers in swing districts to support the amendment.” To be fair, their free lapel pins were in jeopardy as well. Okay, also their own health insurance premium was going to be raised also, but guys, aren’t you supposed to be trying to change your image?
