Foxcatcher

Foxcatcher
It’s the 1980s and Olympic Gold Medalist, Mark Schultz, is a struggling wrestling champion, determined to win the World Championship and then make it to the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. His brother Dave, is also a former Olympic medalist and is his trainer and biggest supporter. But when John, the wealthy heir to the Du Pont fortune, makes Mark an offer he can’t refuse, the younger Schultz brother gets caught up in a world he never knew existed. It all comes crashing down however, when John, who has issues of his own, brings Dave aboard in a plan to coach an Olympic winning wrestling team. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Foxcatcher”.

∙ The team is training at the wrestling facility when Jean du Pont and her nurse arrive. When John calls the team together, and they sit on the floor in front of him, Dave’s arms are by his side. In the rear view, he lifts his right arm and is rubbing his head. But, when it cuts to the front view, his arms are by his side.

∙ Also during this scene, when the nurse comes in, there’s no stethoscope. In the far view, when John starts to clap his hands, there is a stethoscope wrapped around her neck and dangling down the left side of her coat. But when John says “bring it in”, it’s gone again. The stethoscope is there in the far views but is gone in the close-ups.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Mark gets mad after the first match at the 1988 Seoul trials. He goes back to his hotel room and ransacks the place. At one point, he smashes his head into the mirror and pieces of glass are embedded into the right side of his forehead. He’s still bloody when Dave bursts in and finds him. But, a few moments later, when he’s getting weighed, his forehead is unblemished.

“Foxcatcher” (2014) stars Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Sienna Miller, Vanessa Redgrave and Anthony Michael Hall. It runs 134 minutes and is rated R for some drug use and a scene of violence.
