The Envato Market is a marketplace for selling website templates, Flash, Unity 3D, audio, graphics, 3D models and materials, code, plugins, photos and, of course, motion graphics. As you can see, you can sell many types of downloadable files but I was mostly interested in selling motion graphics. Here is a general overview of what I found when I did a little research about selling Apple Motion templates and Motion Graphics on VideoHive.

Your Account

Envato is made up of many sites including the Envato Market, Envato Studio and Tuts+. The Envato Market is made up of eight sites including ThemeForest for website templates, ActiveDen for Flash, AudioJungle for audio, GraphicRiver for graphics, 3DOcean for 3D, CodeCanyon for code projects, PhotoDune for photos and VideoHive for motion graphics. To sell on any of these markets, just open one account. Once you open an account on Envato, go to your profile page.

From your profile page, you will want to update your Personal Information and Social Network links, upload an avatar and homepage image and add a profile heading and profile text. Once you start selling, you can also set up your Item Licenses and Tax Information. You will also want to visit the Dashboard and check out the Author Resources links.

Envato Market

The Envato Market is a royalty-free license platform. You maintain the copyright for the digital files for sale in your store and give your customers a license to use those files in their projects. You will want to study the information about the types of assets that you can use in your download files. Of course, any assets such as background images and audio files that you create yourself are safe to use in your products. However, if you wish to use any third-party assets, you will need to acquire a license to use those assets for resale and redistribution for commercial use.

Envato is very helpful when it comes to supplying assets for your products, as you can use the watermarked audio, video and other files from the Envato Market as long as you give credit to the author. For example, you may wish to use the watermarked version of an audio file from AudioJungle for one of your Christmas themed motion graphics.

Once you upload your product for sale, the file will go through testing and a review process which includes determining the price of the product file. How Envato determines the price is based on many factors including uniqueness and complexity.

Of course, you will have many questions as you get started. Envato has a great help center, author community and blog. They also have frequent competitions and promotions in the marketplace to help with marketing your products.
