Shooting Star Animation In Motion - The Message

Shooting Star Animation In Motion - The Message
In this three-part tutorial, we have already built most of the intro video for the Children's Storybook Template for iBooks AuthorR project. We have the title text and spider animated on the screen and the shooting stars animation. Now we will add a speech bubble and text that will give the spider a voice.

Let's have the speech bubble appear 1 second after the last shooting star animation. We will use the Quote Bubble Shape from the Library, add some text and apply a Text Sequence Behavior.

The last shooting star animation ends at the 4:20 sec mark on the Timeline. So let's add the speech bubble at the 5:10 sec mark.

  1. Move the Playhead to 5:10. In the Library - Shapes, find the Quote Bubble and click Apply.

  2. Drag the object to the right of the spider and rotate until the arrow of the speech bubble is pointing at the spider.

He's a friendly spider, so let's have him say "Hi".

  3. Move the Playhead to 5:15 sec and add the text. In the Inspector, keep the Chalkboard SE font and increase the size.

Let's keep the Hi message on the screen until 6:00 sec and replace it with the first part of the topic text "Let's Learn About".

  4. Move the Playhead to 6:00 and drag the right edge of the Hi Object bar to the 6:00 mark.

  5. With the Playhead still at 6:00, use the Text tool to add the "let's Learn About" text. Size and position the text to fit within the top of the speech bubble.

As this text will remain on the screen to the end of the video, the Object Bar will extend to the end of the Timeline.

  6. With the text selected, go to Library - Behaviors - Text Sequence and apply the Scale In behavior.

Next, we will add the topic text "Widgets" after the Scale In behavior ends.

  7. Move the Playhead to the 8:00 mark and add the "Widgets" text. Position and size the text to fill the rest of the speech bubble.

Now we have the video completed, we can share to YouTube from the top Menubar (Share - YouTube).

Extra Credit: For those readers who wish a bigger challenge, animate the spider's legs as he bounces. You will need to separate the spider body from the eight legs on individual layers in the Photoshop file.
