Get Discovered With a Knockout Portfolio is a Skillshare video course, taught by Sarah Rapp, introducing Behance and online portfolios.

Sarah Rapp is the Head of Community Management at Adobe's Behance. In this 14 minute course, Sarah gives a short overview of what an online portfolio is and why creatives need one in todays marketplace. The final project for the course is to create your own online portfolio or share another artist's portfolio with the class.

Sarah begins by discussing how an online portfolio is better for today's creatives than a print portfolio, because it allows artists to share much more about their art than a printed portfolio. She gives the class a tour of some of her favorite examples of online portfolios for several creative fields, including photography, graphic design, web design, industrial design, illustration and costume design.

Next, Sarah discusses why the purpose of your portfolio is not only to show your best work but a little about yourself as well. She covers the two most important pages of your portfolio, which are the gallery and about/contact page. She gives the class a few tips for how to choose the best examples of your work, how many to include in your portfolio, how often to update your portfolio and the overall design of your portfolio. When discussing the gallery layout design for your portfolio, Sarah suggests including both the final work and also some in-progress images.

For the about/contact page, Sarah suggests sharing a little about yourself and your workflow. She discusses what you might include in your profile in order to tell your own story.

Finally, Sarah discusses why the artist would want to create a Behance portfolio and the benefits of joining the Behance community. She mentions the importance of using metadata when building your portfolio, such as a good project description and keyword tags.

Although I found the course helpful, I was hoping for more details about how to create a portfolio on Behance. Hopefully, Sarah will create a follow-up course with this information. Don't forget to check the Your Project tab, where Sarah has included several useful links.
