The catalog has a handy vegetable sowing guide. The new varieties are presented near the front. Some of the new varieties for 2019 include Fioretto 60 cauliflower. This is heat tolerant and suitable for successive sowing. The stems are ready to harvest in about two months.

Mountain Gem tomato is a high yielding, new blight resistant variety with some resistance to blossom end rot. This was bred in western North Carolina. The top quality, globe-shaped, large, somewhat flattened tomatoes are up to four inches wide. The thick flesh has an excellent flavor.

Other new veggies for 2019 are Early Prince pumpkin, Avalanche beet, Iznik cucumber, Lasso onion, and a Bicolor Early Riser, part of the Summer Sweet corn series. Winter Autumn Crown squash is a lovely winter squash with a white skin and gold flesh.

For 2019, some of the new flower varieties include Pro Cut White Nite sunflower, which features four inch wide white blossoms with dark centers. These plants reach five feet in height.

Sun Fill Green sunflower, also new, is unique because the showy part of the flower happens to be the three to four inch wide calyx rather than the usual showy petals. The plants are five to six feet in height.

Rose Bronze Leaf begonia is a new color in the Begonia Big series. The upright, arching plant is 1½ feet wide, and is ideal for both pots and landscapes. It adapts to sun and shade in all regions. The very large, showy blossoms are three inches across. These flowers appear at least two weeks earlier than most comparable begonias.

Cosmic Xsenia cosmos is a new award winning annual that was named a Fleuroselect winner. Tattoo Papaya vinca is new heat tolerant flower variety for 2019 and features beautiful coral blossoms.

With over a hundred pages, this catalog has a lot of helpful gardening information. Throughout the catalog gardeners will find helpful symbols that identify plants with special qualities, such as All-America Selections winners, cut flower varieties, and disease resistant plants.

This features so many fine varieties of veggies, herbs, and flowers. The veggies are most alphabetical by common name as are most of the flowers. There is a handy table of contents on the inside of the front cover.

For most crops, this has detailed information on growing, sowing, and caring for the plants. For certain veggies, there are charts and tables with additional details, including comparisons of the different varieties, and symbols identifying those varieties that are disease resistant and of special interest.

Twilley is an excellent source for corn seed for this catalog has ten pages of varieties with almost as many pages for watermelons and pumpkins. The pumpkin varieties are organized into categories according to their use, such as decorations, cornucopias, and giant ones for contests. Pepitas is a dual use pumpkin that bears hullless seeds good for roasting.

The flowers are listed mostly by Latin name, and feature details on growing, sowing, spacing, and plant care. The catalog has quite a few varieties of ornamental cabbage and kale. It also has quite few kinds of sunflowers.

The same is true for zinnias. I’m impressed with all the different zinnia species that they sell. One particular variety called Cut and Come Again (Zinnia pumilla) caught my eye. It is a wonderful choice for cutting gardens. This flower mix features flowers in assorted colors. The plants are two feet tall and 2½ inch wide blooms.

The herbs are listed after the lettuces, and include 14 basil varieties.
