Mary is a young girl in Nazareth, betrothed to Joseph. Not yet married, Mary is visited by an angel and is told she is with child, and will bear a son, Jesus, fulfilling a prophesy told years earlier. Joseph and her family are shamed when she arrives back from a visit to her cousin, Elizabeth, and noticeably pregnant. Trying to deal with what he believes to be a betrayal, Joseph is visited by the same angel and is told the same tidings. Meanwhile, King Herod is also concerned about the prophesy, considering him a threat, and trying to find the new king before he loses his throne. He sees the perfect opportunity to finding him, when a census is issued, demanding all men to return to the place of their birth to be counted. Joseph and Mary set out on the arduous journey to Bethlehem, not knowing what lays in store for them. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “The Nativity Story”.

· A noticeably pregnant Mary is talking with her parents after her return from visiting Elizabeth and Zechariah. In the front view of her parents when her father yells, “Elizabeth has a husband,” her mother’s arms are down by her side. It cuts to a side/rear view and her mother’s left arm is outstretched with her hand touching her husband’s arm. She’s shown pulling her arm away. It cuts back to the original view and Mary’s mother is shown moving her hand away from his arm again.

· Joseph has fallen asleep and Mary is cleaning his battered foot. After she speaks, a close-up view of her hands shows her left hand is holding Joseph’s foot near the ankle while her right hand is holding the cloth and wiping the bottom of his foot. It cuts to an overhead view and the cloth is in her left hand, wiping his foot, while she’s holding the bottom of his foot in her right hand.

· Mary and Joseph have stopped to warm themselves by the shepherd’s fire. In the front view of Joseph, when he says they must go, the shepherd’s hands are empty and clasped together. It cuts to a wider view as Joseph stands and the shepherd is rubbing one of his sheep.

· The three Wise Men, Melchior, Balthasar, and Gaspar, are dining with Herod and talking about the prophesy. In the wider view, Melchior mentions the signs he now sees and a young boy is in front of him. Melchior’s left hand drapes over the boy’s left shoulder. It cuts to a close-up view when Herod talks about the star they’ve been following and the same boy is now in front of him. Herod’s arms encircle him.

“The Nativity Story” (2006) stars Keisha Castle-Hughes, Oscar Isaac, Hiam Abbass, Shaun Toub, Ciaran Hinds, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Stanley Townsend, Alexander Siddig, Nadim Sawalha, Eriq Ebouaney, and Stefan Kalipha. It runs 101 minutes and is rated PG for violent content.
