The Johnny’s Seeds 2022 catalog is now available. This is an employee owned company. This is one of the largest and most extensive seed catalogs with nearly 250 pages. It features all sorts of helpful charts and information that gardeners need.

One of my favorite features in this catalog is the easy to find index listed on one of the last pages. Shipping is free for orders over $200. In addition to seeds and plants, the catalog also has many kinds of gardening supplies, tools, and the like.

For 2022, Johnny’s is adding over a hundred new items. Jack of Hearts pumpkin was bred by Dr. Lindsay Wyatt at Johnny’s along with help from the University of New Hampshire (UNH).

The disease resistant plants are space saving due to the short vines. Ready in 100 days,Jack of Hearts pumpkins weigh six to seven pounds and are just perfect for youngsters due to the long handle that means these pumpkins are easy to carry.

Duchess pumpkin is a disease resistant plant that is very heavy yielding in 100 days. This was also bred by Dr. Wyatt and UNH. The lovely double ribbed high quality pumpkins weigh up to 21 pounds.

EarliSnow cauliflower is ideal for both spring and fall crops. Ready in 45 days, it is the most reliable, consistent yielding, early variety in the trials. The widely adaptable plants are medium sized.

With Bamako filet beans, gardeners can harvest fresh bright yellow green beans every three to four days as this plant is super productive. The timely harvest provides slender very tender pods, up to five inches long on upright tidy plants.
Harvest begins in 54 days.

Narvik carrots are ready in 70 days. These are high quality, attractive carrots, up to seven inches long. They store amazingly well for a mid season variety. The upright dark tops are strong.

Nigral Improved Black Italian eggplant is ready in 65 days. The spineless plants proved to be very adaptable and high yielding. Compared to Nadia eggolant, Nigral eggplant is earlier and improved.

Shishito sweet peppers can be eaten green in 60 days or red in 80 days. These are thin walled peppers, up to 3 ½ inches long. They’re recommended for tempura, stir fries, sauteed, roasting, cole slaw, and salads. The large plants are very productive.

Century Star seedless watermelon is a new AAS regional winner in the Great Lakes region. Ready in 80 days, the melons weigh around ten pounds. The high yielding, vigorous plants are especially suited to the North.

Triton cantaloupe is highly recommended for the East. These melons weigh up to 5½ pounds, ready in 75 days. They’re slightly earlier than Athena cantaloupes. Triton cantaloupes store and ship well, and are crack resistant with a long shelf life. The plants are disease resistant.

Other new vegetables for 2022 include Red Leaf Beet microgreens, Konan kohlrabi, Enroza tomato, Starstruck Lettuce mix, Eliance escarole, Divino brussels sprouts, Cash Crop collards, and Winter Blush along with Sweet Jade, which are kabocha winter squash developed by Johnny’s, and Microgreens Mizuna Red Flash.

Johnny’s Seeds is a great source for flower seeds, especially ones for cut flowers. The catalog features two pages of tulip varieties with four new ones for 2022.

New flowers for 2022 include Bonita White and Bonita Shell Pink China asters, Ivory Princess calendula, Red Celway celosia, and three new colors in the Camelot series of digitalis. New herbs for 2022 include Everleaf Thai Towers basil.
