The Preamble
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

It seems that anytime someone mentions the word “welfare” there is the mental image of the “welfare mother”. Many, rightfully, cringe at this image, yet it comes to mind because of the mindless rhetoric of elected loudmouths. So, for this reason, please remember that welfare

  • simply refers to someone being healthy, properly fed, and comfortable. We extend this kind of living to our animals, so I don’t want to hear any more whining about extending it to a household of 13 children and their unwed mother. If we can send a man to the moon, we should also be able to feed those who cannot (or will not) do so themselves, make sure they are clothed, healthy, and don’t live in substandard housing that is infested with roaches on the inside, and gangbangers on the outside.
  • begins with you. Is your family looked after? Are you current on the child support payment? Is your elderly mother/father taken care of? They are? Great! Now, what about your neighbor…is s/he looked after? …
  • needs to be an organized effort, and next time the suggestion is made to build a homeless shelter in your neighborhood, quit yapping about not wanting it in your backyard. The homeless, just like you, are members of “we the people”, and thus they deserve respect and kindness, just like you.
  • is not a birthright nor is a welfare state something to aspire to. If you are healthy, work! If your family members are not healthy, work harder to help them. Don’t leave it to the government to fix your living situation. Instead, let the government use its resources for those who are truly needy, not just who perceive themselves to be needy.

Did they say “blessing?” Why yes, they did. So quit trying to take any word that smacks of religion or spirituality and twist it to infer an establishment of a religion. Your a-theist rants do nothing to form a more perfect union, but instead a separating the fabric of a country that prides itself on its religious tolerance. So be tolerant of someone else’s religion already!

Furthermore, securing blessings does not automatically mean warfare. A war fought in lieu of an event taking place (or not) does not secure anything.

And, lest we forget, exercising one’s liberty is not the same as being libertine, so stop trying to get everyone to buy into your personal lack of moral restraint!

Anyways, thank you for permitting me this little soap box. Additionally, please remember that the union of this great country stands and falls with us, “we the people.” Nobody can take away that which we do not willingly relinquish, yet, sadly, it appears that many are willing to let go of the very promises made by the Preamble of the Constitution in return for the shiny baubles of personal wealth, a pet cause, and a disdain of those who think differently. Shame on us, that we are willing to kick with our feet that for which many paid with their very lifeblood!
