Shameless
I have to say that although I'm a bonafide primetime TV junkie there are a few shows that I can miss and catch up on them while watching them on my DVR. This is especially true because of my busy schedule. However, my one guilty pleasure, that I HAVE to see on Sundays, is Shameless.
Shameless is a Showtime original series and it stars William H. Macy (Fargo, ER) as Frank Gallagher, an absolutely deplorable alcoholic father of 6. Emmy Rossum (The Day After Tomorrow, Beautiful Creatures) co-stars as Fiona Gallagher, Frank's oldest daughter and the primary caretaker of the Gallagher brood.
The cast includes Frank (the dad), Fiona (the oldest daughter), Lip (the oldest son), Ian (a son who turns out not to be Frank's biological child), Carl (a son), Debbie (a daughter) and Liam (the baby). The next door neighbors, Veronica and Kevin, are always at the house also.
Although the show highlights the trifling escapades of Frank, some of the things that happen are so outrageous that you have to laugh. While you hate Frank during every episode, you can only appreciate the fact that this family doesn't wallow in their sorrows. They continue to find a way to push through their obstacles and they always put each other first. It's a great demonstration of how a family should be (minus the deadbeat dad of course).
Pros
*Fresh, entertaining content from week to week
*Unadulterated realness - the show seems authentic from beginning to end
*Diversity - I absolutely love shows that have a diverse cast. I think diversity consistently adds to the character of a television show.
Cons
*This is definitely not a kid-appropriate show. If you are offended by cursing, sex and/or drugs, this show is probably not for you.
Shameless is currently in it's third season. You can catch up on past episodes On Demand with your cable provider. Netflix also features Season 1 and Season 2.
Shameless comes on Showtime on Sunday nights. It usually repeats a few times in case you miss it.
