Partial-Birth Abortion Banned

Partial-Birth Abortion Banned
In a controversial decision, the United States Supreme Court has ruled to ban partial-birth abortion, without exceptions.

This does not mean that all later-term abortion is banned, but that one form of abortion – Intact D & X – will be completely outlawed. Partial-birth abortion accounts for only .17% of all abortions in the United States every year.

Detractors are using a defense that, in my opinion, is somewhat wishy-washy and without much relevance. Pro-abortion doctors and other medical professionals claim the new ruling interferes with HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

"If HIPAA prevents me from speaking to family members about medical decisions without permission, how can the federal government insert itself into the decision-making process without invitation from either the physician or the patient?" said Dr. Lisa Jones, of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Planned Parenthood calls the ruling “reckless” and is making sure to perform all the abortions they can before the law goes into effect. Here is an short excerpt from an open letter by their vice president for medical affairs, Vanessa Cullins, MD: “No changes in the law have gone into effect at this time. If you have an appointment, you should still come in. When you come in for your appointment, you and your doctor will discuss your situation, his or her recommendations, and your options. The bottom line is that we can help you and we are here to answer your questions. “

In case there are any questions as to where Planned Parenthood’s motivation lies go to their home page and a pop up will ask you to donate money to help fight the abortion ban.

In no way is this a total victory for life in the Roe v. Wade battle, but it is monumental. The fact that pro-abortion advocates are calling up irrelevant policy arguments and have not supplied a single scientific fact supporting the need for this procedure is hugely telling. Is the tide finally turning?
