Abort or Give Birth - Couple Asks Voters

Abort or Give Birth - Couple Asks Voters
The Bible states that there is nothing new under the sun, but in an odd twist of today's Internet society, I think we've seen, at the very least, a new twist on disregard for human life. A couple from Minnesota, named Alisha and Pete Arnold have published a website asking readers to vote on whether or not they should keep or abort her pregnancy.

Instead of focusing on the impending birth of their child, "Baby Wiggles," as he is dubbed in an ultrasound photo, they claim to be making a sweeping political statement. "Voting is such an important part of who we are as a people," Pete told Gawker, in a recent interview. He maintains that this is not a prank, but they want to get everyone involved in the abortion debate. And make sure the public knows that every vote is crucial. Indeed.

For her part, Alisha asserts that this is no stunt and, because of her pro-choice stance, it is most certainly not a pro-life campaign. As I looked at the website, and read the interviews, I can't help but hear the warning bell in the back of my brain telling me that no person in their right mind would ever do something this insanely stupid. Sadly though, anyone can switch on the modem and plug in a few paragraphs and digital photos with today's great new web design tools.

As a pro-life advocate, I'm at once speechless and not surprised at all that someone would stoop this low to make an unborn baby the focal point of a vaguely defined pseudo-political statement. This is truly a new low in child exploitation.

Any pregnancy comes with ups and downs, yet it's the mother's responsibility to care for and protect her unborn child to the best of her ability. Anyone who could have hatched this creative idea surely has the ability to pick up a "What to Expect..." book, take her vitamins, and care for the child in a healthy way, instead of constructing a "birth or not" poll for the baby. I can't imagine, if they allow the child to live, how and when he'll learn about his entrance into the world and what emotional problems it might cause years later.

As a born-again Christian, I'd be remiss not to address the moral issue at hand. I'm so saddened by the decay of society, that I think this would best be put into a few succinct statements, without me trying to win your opinion with through the emotion of the written word. Let the truth speak for itself.

We are all created by a living, loving, present God.

The choice is not ours to end a human life.

There is always forgiveness and love from God, when we ask, because of Christ's sacrifice at the Cross, no matter what we've done.

Even though we have forgiveness from God when we ask, oftentimes there will still be a consequence to bear for our actions.

If you believe in God and are reading this, please pray for "Baby Wiggles" and his parents Alisha and Pete Arnold.
