Junk Mail and Local Ad Giveaways

Junk Mail and Local Ad Giveaways
Are you drowning in junk mail? I know many of us consider every advertisement we receive junk mail and don't give them a second thought. But besides coupons and discounts for your local businesses, there may also be contests and sweepstakes buried in the ads. Before you toss out or recycle the junk mail from national chains, local shops and advertisers—make sure you aren't throwing away an opportunity to win great prizes.

Some of the sweepstakes and giveaways I've come across through my junk mail are:

  • GoDish.com iPad giveaway.

  • A $10,000 shopping spree from the Hallmark Channel through Valpak which is that blue envelope of local offers you often see in the mail.

  • Kohl's Dream Receipt online entry but a mail-in entry is an option for a $75 Kohl's merchandise prize.

  • A free plush toy from a local pet store.

All of these had the option of entering with no purchase necessary. The first three are legitimate national sweepstakes. Even though the odds against winning are higher, I still entered them and I may not have heard of them if I hadn't gone through my junk mail. Most of these have online entry options but mail-in entries are a possibility too. In the case of the plush toy, I would have to go to the store to get it but again there was no purchase necessary.

Another source for giveaways are local advertisements that are either mailed to you or ones you see around town at restaurants and other businesses. Have you seen the Coffee News man? Coffee News is a weekly publication with franchises all over the world that advertises businesses in your community. You can win a prize if your name is drawn from the monthly entries when you find where the Coffee News man is hidden in the newsletter. I've seen cash prizes offered along with gift certificates to local businesses.

That's just one example of a local ads. Newsletter type advertisement booklets, newspapers and even grocery store flyers are more sources to keep an eye on for giveaways. When it comes to these junk mail offers, somebody is winning. Why not you?
