January 1 2020 Tatting Newsletter

Be sure to get a 2020 calendar and start marking all the fun tatting events coming up!

From: fringe tatters fringetatters at gmail.com

Happy New Year everyone - it's 2020 !!!
Hindsight is also 20-20, looking back can be the time for reflection and resolution.
Much has been made in the past few weeks of the fact that it's not just a new year, but also a new decade - what has happened over the past 10 years in your life?
How creative were you - how many projects got completed? How many promises did you make to yourself?
As you are setting goals for this year, be realistic and be creative.

More websites were submitted after the last newsletter was sent and have been attached. We suggest printing the list for reference.
Maybe you will find inspiration as you look.

Tatting Exchanges
As well as our tat weekends, the Fringe has become known for our tatting exchanges. At times we have close to 50 people participating worldwide. It is exciting to receive work from another tatter in Denmark, the UK, the US, Australia, and Canada. We ask that if you decide to join an exchange that you begin to tat your item immediately and make sure it is sent by the beginning of the month it is due. Postage rates and time for delivery have become problematic.
You can join one or all four exchanges in a year. Each project has a three-month time frame - from announcement to expected delivery.
Please make sure that you can adhere to the deadlines before you sign up.

Exchange 1 for 2020
Because the Fringe theme this year is 'I (Eye) Love Tatting' - our first project is to tat a favorite motif because you do it often. I love this pattern!
It could be a snowflake, a bookmark or a small motif.
Dates
1. Send an email to Fringe Tatters (please don't just reply as that sends the whole newsletter) by January 12 if you wish to participate.
Only a change of address is needed if you've already done an exchange.
2. The person you with whom you will be exchanging along with other information will be sent back to you no later than January 15.
3. You need to have your item in the mail no later than March 1 to ensure it arrives by March 31.

Tatting Events
While attending these tatting weekends to learn new things and meet people, there are vendors selling their wares and often a contest for the participants.
You can look for more information on the websites. Every tat weekend is well worth the travel involved.

In the past year, we have become increasingly aware of the disregard some people have for the work of others. You should not be posting a pattern without crediting the person who designed it or without their permission. Too many people have used the world wide web as a place to show off tatted pieces that are not their own work.
Please stop and think before hitting the send button. Piracy has a cost.
But of course, keep tatting and sharing with friends but use discretion. We are a fringe craft and we owe the designers a huge thank you for their ideas.

If you have a local tatting group, please support them.

We would love to hear your comments or suggestions at any time.

May 2020 be a creative year of tatting. All the best from the F
