Italy Supports Cyprus Reunification

Italy on Friday reiterated its support for the reunification of Cyprus, divided since 1974 into the ethnic Greek Republic of Cyprus and a Turkish-controlled area in the north. "Italy offers its strong support for Cyprus`s commitment (to reunify the island) and calls again on Turkey to exercise the necessary pressure so that the Turkish-Cypriot area adopts an attitude of collaboration," Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said during a meeting with his Cypriot counterpart Markos Kyprianou.
