Hi all,
Happy (belated) New Year. To prepare for the New Year, my first 2010 article last week was on major Buddhist holidays (including 2010 dates.) My second article is a review of a documentary film called Recalling a Buddha. Summaries and links for both are below - I hope you enjoy. And please, don't hesitate to send me suggestions for topics this year.
On another note, I would like to include a sutra/sutta quote in every newsletter this year, selected (somewhat) randomly, so be sure to check the end of this message for that!

Review of Documentary Recalling a Buddha
The Sixteenth Karmapa, from the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, had a profound effect on the spread of Buddhist teachings in the West. Learn more about this fascinating teacher, including details of the 'Black Crown Ceremony', in my review of this documentary about his life.

Sutra quote, from the Dhammapada, 'The Thousands':
"Better than a thousand hollow words
Is one word that brings peace.
Better than a thousand hollow verses
Is one verse that brings peace.
Better than a hundred hollow lines
Is one line of the law, bringing peace.
It is better to conquer yourself
Than to win a thousand battles.
Then the victory is yours."
