Tatting book from Singapore!
Fun with Tatted Motifs by Irene Yeow and Lilian Cheong

I have had an interesting letter from one of the authors of a new tatting book. "Fun with Tatted Motifs." Irene Yeow says that she is a writer and freelance editor of educational books. She learned tatting from Lilian Cheong about 7 years ago. Lilian has been teaching tatting (and beading) classes for 20 years in craft shops in Singapore. When Irene realized that Lilian had come up with her own tatting techniques and patterns, she decided to write and publish a full-color book, complete with step-by-step photos and instructions, for people who would like to tat and have no access to a tatting instructor.

I asked Irene about tatting guilds in Singapore. She replied that there are no tatting guilds in Singapore. Ladies who are interested in tatting gather in small groups to learn the art in quilt and craft shops. Lilian is at present teaching her tatting class at a local Bernina Craft Centre. She and Lilian were thinking of starting tatting classes in their local community clubs if the response is good. (That is something any tatter can do. Put up a notice in the public library and perhaps make a display of lace. I bet that there is another tatter somewhere in your own community or someone who would like to tat!)

Filled with great instructions, this book has 6 patterns also for the beginners to try out. Irene added that their book is aimed at beginning and intermediate tatters, so more than half the book is devoted to the techniques. Irene has shared some of the photos with us. It appears to have high-quality photos, illustrations and printing. US cost is to be determined. It is not available in the US market yet but it is available online.
I am looking forward to getting a copy to review for BellaOnline.com
