Greetings Everyone -
Sorry for the delay in getting new articles and a newsletter out. Matthew is on intersession for the whole month of January, which is also known as extended school year (ESY) since it is a year round school. Then there are 6 days off in Feb until he goes back to a regular schedule. I specifically have it stated that he is to get his related services during ESY, but the SLP did not read the IEP and has not complied, so a State complaint form will be mailed this week.
I did not even mention that on Sunday we went to a different grocery store and Matthew got in trouble for squeezing the meet and then lunged at my face scratching me above the lip. We ended up walking out and going to our regular store where Matthew entered with a few high pitched screams. It was one of those days that the kids should have stayed in the car.
The article I just typed today is on one conference in Southern California during the month of Feb. However, there are several others that I will be compiling into another article shortly.
Lots of news going on in the autism community. I saw on Good Morning America yesterday the segment on the real "RainMan". You can see this as well by going here:

This link includes an excerpt of the book Born on a Blue Day, which happens to be #29 on the amazon book sales listing. That even beats out Dear John by Nicholas Sparks, which has a character with Asperger Syndrome and is ranked #89. The rankings may have changed since yesterday when I noted them on my notepad.
I received the Feb 2007 Reader's Digest the other day and noticed there is an article on J-Mac on page 136 entitled - An Unlikely MVP. The video to watch J-Mac with Magic Johnson is at:

I read that this Thursday (Jan 18th)on Rachel Ray - here in Los Angeles it airs on CBS at 9 am - check your listings to note when it airs. There will be a family with an autistic child discussing music and the child with autism.
The current issue of People (Jan 22) has an article on Mozart and the Whale. Time magazine has an article on the epidemic of autism -
