I read that Valentine's Day is the second greatest event during the year for sending greeting cards and gifts. Here is a way to combine your tatting, Valentine's day greeting and a gift all in one envelope. All while learning split rings and studying the methods of constructions for tatting. As part of the Online Tatting Class in 2001, Holly encountered this vintage heart pattern. Her teacher may have designed it or it may have come from elsewhere. Holly is uncertain. (If anyone recognizes the source, please let us know.) Holly sent this scan to me and asked, "Can this be adapted to split rings?" After one look at all the loose ends hanging about, I replied "YES!" Since Valentine's Day was nearly upon us, I then put out a call for a helper to tat the model. Lily Morales came to the rescue. So Lily and I redesigned the heart for us to study here that class. |

During the diagramming process, Lily became inspired and modified the basic heart pattern into a superb heart-shaped bookmark with tassel!. She did a magnificent job with photos for all the steps and has prepared the step by step instructions with stitch counts. Terrific work, Lily! Lily Morales“ Heart Bookmark is a workout in split rings and spiral tatting, and even includes good clear instructions on how to make the tassel - a real rarity! A lovely lace you will enjoy. |
