Tatting

January 7 2014 Tatting Newsletter

Here it is the beginning of a new year and my first new supply of thread has just arrived! I got some of that luscious Lizbeth thread in Christmas Red and Angel's love (don't you just love their creative descriptions of the colors?) to start making hearts for Valentine's Day.

I also ordered up two balls of the Rainbow Splash and a set of large and small satin-wrapped styrofoam egg forms to work up a design for the Spring Holidays. I do adore Easter eggs of all kinds.

But thread and eggs were not all that was in my box of tatting supplies. I got new books!! Oh my goodness. I now have a stack of seven books to review. And there are five more books in the mail. I am so delighted to have on the way to me my first two tatting pattern books in Korean!!! A second book by Alicja Kwartnik in Italian, another book in Polish by Agnieszka and even a book by a tatting designer new to me, Talts' "Schiffchenspitze" in German.

Here is just a sample of more book reports to come.

Frivolité 1 published by Creationes Artime (Spanish.)

This is a large A4 size paperbound book with 34 pages of gorgeous color. The tatted pieces are beautifully photographed. Although the instructions are printed in Spanish, the excellent full color diagrams make the pattern easy to follow. The double stitch counts are clearly marked on the diagrams. These diagrams are special in regard to showing the joining picots. The joining picots are color coded so that you know instantly from which element they extend and which element is the new piece to which they are joined.

The greatest attraction of the book to me is pictured on the back cover. Tatted gloves! I think that tatted gloves must be one of the most requested bridal items that I know about. These gloves are designed using a familiar block of two back to back rings followed by chains with a mirror image on the return pass. Elegantly simply and easily sized to fit any bride.
