This week I discuss online safety and children. Please consider seriously, whom your children may be chatting with online. Often children think they know who they are talking to and are very trusting of the person on the other end who may have verified who they were by sending your child a picture of themselves as a 15 year old teenage boy, when if fact they are a 51 year old pedophile targeting your child as his next victim.

Find out what kind of information your child has in their online profiles. Do not just ask them to tell you what is there, ask them to show you there profile. Do they have a myspace.com account? Do they understand how little information they can give out that can lead an online stalker to find them by researching what they tell them on the WWW?

Most of us know our child’s best friend, boyfriend or girlfriend, and their archenemy. How many know our child’s online friends? As parents, many of us are naïve when it comes to our child’s online friendships. The internet affords us some anonymity. Who is he or she talking to online?
