British artist Damien Hirst mixes art and commerce (reminiscent of Andy Warhol). Recently named "the most expensive living artist," Hirst sold his "Lullaby Spring pill cabinet" for $19.1 million at Sotheby's. Famous for his animals in formaldehyde, especially his lamb and his "Lamb of God" theme, now there is "For the Love of God," a life size scull of diamonds and platinum valued at $99 million. It shouldn't be a surprise that the scull, with 8,601 diamonds totaling 1,106.18 carats sold for $100 million. Who would pay that outrageous amount, you ask? If you haven't heard, the buyer was an investment group of which Hirst is a member. They plan on sending the skull on tour to museums and galleries around the world. Another tidbit of news, Damien Hirst has created wearable art, a charm bracelet with metallic pills. They are signed and numbered, limited-edition, in sterling silver and 18 ct yellow gold.
