Greetings! We'll be going on a bi-monthly article schedule through the end of the year. I'm going to attempt to continue the newsletter on a weekly basis, so don't disappear on me!
Thanks and have a great week!
PeytonNewest Article: Mud and Musk Turtles
URL: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art47219.asp
Synopsis: A look at the most overlooked but best potential first turtles!
--------------------
Herp of the Week: Pig-Nosed Turtle
Scientific Name: Carettochelys insculpta
Informational Site: http://www.digimorph.org/specimens/Carettochelys_insculpta/
Description: A favorite of mine, the Pig-Nosed turtle is the sole surviving member of Carettochelyidae. This turtle resembles (and propels itself with its big front flipper-like feet like) a sea turtle but resides in fresh water. It was featured on Reptiles Magazine several years ago, and I’ve been in love with it ever since. It’s pig-like face is hard to resist. It’s diet consists of insects, snails, small fish, various fruits, roots, and leaves, .The website is also very interesting with its x-rays and data. Enjoy!

Site of the Week: Official Site of the Indie Rock Band called Tortoise
Review: Ok, so it’s not a reptile site! Any band that chooses a herp related name deserves a little attention. I thought I’d mix things up a bit with some less traditional herp-related sites. I’ve never listened to the music of Tortoise, but all you audiofiles might enjoy giving them a shot…if you haven’t already.
--------------------
Item of the Week: Waterland Tubs
Review: Ranging in size from 55"L x 25"W x 12"H to 76"L x 35W x 24"H with optional covers and bulkhead drains, these tubs have a lot of potential. There is even a Waterland LAND tub for tortoises and box turtles (72 x 32 x 14"H and 2/3 land, 1/3 water). The lightness of the polyethylene combined with the non-stick surface (for easy cleaning) give them great potential .
