Halloween Safety and ADD
Halloween can be an outstanding adventure for your child with ADD, or it can be a disaster. What makes the difference? Parental planning, plus normal precautions, can soften some of the effects of impulsivity and giving in to peer pressure that can occur on an unsupervised Halloween night.
I started thinking about all of the kids with ADD who will be out celebrating Halloween, and I just couldn't stop until this article was written. That's why you're getting a bonus newsletter this week.
My kids are grown now. I'll bet some tiny part of them wishes that they could still trick or treat! Well, they'll just have to wait until they have little ones of their own to haul around in all kinds of weather, dragging their candy bags behind them.
When our children were young, I worried about how their impulsiveness could put them in danger on Halloween night. My husband and I put structures in place that evolved over time to help keep them safe. Thank you for letting me share them with you. I hope that they are useful.
Now, I'm off to sleep, perchance to dream of ghosts, goblins, and cats that go bump in the night.
Have a blessed weekend,
Connie
