USA VS. THE WORLD: FINLAND PACES INTERNATIONAL LEADERS
An additional battle within the World Series qualifying rounds is a contest for berths in the USA vs. The World special event which will take place on Nov. 6 for delayed airing on ESPN. The top six United States players and the top six international bowlers after 60 games will meet in a one-game team match. Through Thursday¡¯s Scorpion round, the U.S. contingent consisted of Bill O¡¯Neill, Sean Rash, Chris Barnes, Norm Duke, Brian Kretzer and Michael DeVaney.
The international group¡¯s top six after 48 games included Finland¡¯s Mika Koivuniemi, Kimmo Lehtonen and Osku Palermaa; Venezuela¡¯s Amleto Monacelli, Australia¡¯s Jason Belmonte and Sweden¡¯s Martin Larsen.
JENSEN TO FOREGO ¡°OTHER¡± WORLD SERIES TO CONTINUE BOWLING
Storm Products regional sales representative Tyler Jensen of Fort Worth, Texas, will be around for the second week of the PBA World Series of Bowling after all, but at a cost. Jensen, who entered the World Series for a week of vacation and to have fun with his bowling buddies, had no idea he¡¯d finish in the top 16 in any of the five daily events, but he qualified 16th for the Viper Championship match play round and third for the Chameleon Championship. Both match play rounds will be held next week.
Jensen at first said he couldn¡¯t stick around next week, but his boss, Storm Products Vice President-Sales Hank Boomershine, is also bowling in the World Series. After jokingly telling Jensen he was fired because he qualified, Boomershine reversed his decision Thursday. Well, sort of: ¡°I told Tyler he was fired if he was going to miss work. Now I told him he¡¯s fired if he doesn¡¯t bowl next week,¡± Boomershine grinned.
¡°I¡¯m staying to bowl,¡± Jensen said. ¡°But do you know anyone who wants to buy my World Series tickets for Sunday?¡± Jensen, a Texas Rangers baseball fan, will be forced to miss his favorite baseball team¡¯s World Series home game to remain in Las Vegas.

PBA WORLD SERIES OF BOWLING NOTEBOOK:
¡ñ Despite not bowling as well as he had hoped, The Howard Stern Show¡¯s ¡°Scott The Engineer¡± Salem has refused to give up on his hopes for a top 200 finish. The 58-year-old New Jersey league bowler has continued to improve his standings even as lane conditions have become more challenging. On the Thursday¡¯s Scorpion lane condition, he averaged 177.33 for his best finish yet - 224th in the field of 252. Salem¡¯s performances are being covered by HowardTV as well as Stern¡¯s Sirius Satellite Radio show.
¡ñ The leading woman after 48 games was reigning PBA Tournament of Champions winner Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., with 10,314 pins. Her 35th place finish in the Scorpion qualifying round advanced her into 55th place in the World Championship standings. Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, N.Y., was her closest challenger among the 10 women in the field, in 77th place with 10,187 pins.
¡ñ The youngest players in the field - 17-year-olds Zack Hattori of Las Vegas and Morgan O¡¯Brien of Lomira, Wis. ¨C continued to impress. The 2010 Teen Masters boys and girls champions ranked 173rd and 213th, respectively, after 48 games. Hattori averaged 192.92 to finish 187th in the Scorpion round while O¡¯Brien averaged 189.42 for 194th place. While it appeared unlikely either would ¡°cash¡± in the World Series, if they did, both have signed waivers to have any prize money earned deposited in their United States Bowling Congress SMART scholarship fund accounts.
