We have a new game in the Folklore and Mythology forum. "Mythological Character Game" has been a lot of fun. We take the last letter of the previous name given by a poster and give a new name beginning with that letter. We still have the "Town ABC Game" and it is very active. Come join us and give us some unusual or funny town names.

Well...they have always said here in Washoe Valley that if you do not like the weather, wait awhile, it changes quickly.

Last week we had record high temperatures. This week we have had severe thunder and lightning storms with heavy rains, flash floods, and heavy hail. It has snowed up in the Sierra Mountains and they had to close the pass for awhile.

I love to listen to the thunder. For three days and three nights now we have had the loudest thunder rolls and lightning cracks we have ever heard. It is very exciting -- as long as I am in a safe place in the house!

By this weekend we are supposed to have nice warm weather again.

I guess winter will be here before we know it. Be prepared for the cold months ahead and remember one of Aesop's famous fables:

The Ant and the Grasshopper

In a field one summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart's content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.

"Why not come and chat with me," said the Grasshopper, "instead of toiling so hard?"

"I am helping to lay up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and recommend you to do the same."

"Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper, "we have got plenty of food at present." But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil. When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer.

Moral: It is best to prepare for the days of necessity.

Do not be frightened if you hear a Banshee anywhere this Halloween. They really are not fearsome creatures.
