November 14 2004 Art Appreciation Newsletter
On my recent trip to New York, I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is considered to be one of the great museums of the world. And I agree.
I have so many favorite selections of art that I insist on seeing on most visits. If I go alone, I walk the galleries for hours in pursuit of satisfying my soul. If I travel with friends, I introduce them to my favorites and explore new galleries. I must say I am never disappointed.
So what are my favorite picks? The Temple of Dendur, Petrus Christus' "Annunciation" (1450), Pieter Bruegel's "Harvesters," Augustus Saint Gaudens' bronze relief of Bessie Smith White (Mrs. Stanford White). This sculpture was formerly stored in the mezzanine gallery where I discovered (and admired) it many years ago. It now hangs in the American Wing, surrounded by Tiffany Favrile glass and American furniture.
When visiting New York, I highly recommend visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
