Lovely Tatting Doilies for Fall and Winter

Great news! Hye-oon Lee, author of "Lovely Tatting: Doilies for Spring and Summer," has published a new book!

Hye-oon presents many doily patterns with traditional edgings. Most of those in this book feature open centers instead of the round center ring from which we climb out to the next round with mock picot featured in the first book.

Our favorite little ring, the Josephine ring or knot (jk), is seen again but this time it is a completely traditional large doily, Matilda 2, which took my fancy. Thirteen rounds of just ring and chains so well tatted, it is a remarkable piece. But then, I saw the snowfall doily.

But the Naupaka Doily with its froth of delicate picots won my heart in the end. I am starting with that one.

Again, I want to call attention the use of the "^" in her abbreviations list.
"... ^ = When making a split ring (SR), it denotes the stitches of Sh1 and Sh2,
i.e. SR 5^5 indicates five double stitches with Sh1 and five double stitches with Sh2. "

All of the tatting was photographed in full cover by Hye-oon's daughter Eunice.
Hye-oon Lee started tatting while raising her two daughters as a stay-at-home mom. Within a year of learning how to tat, she started designing her own patterns. Most of her design inspiration comes from nature, and she is particularly fond of flowers. She runs a blog, www.lovelytatting.com, where she shares some her latest designs and ideas. There are patterns for free download and she does sell other patterns.
This is a lovely book. It is paper bound with 109 pages. Daughter, Eunice, also helped with the organization of the book. Look for it on your favorite tatting supplier's website, such as Handy Hands Tatting hhtatting.com, The Tatting Corner tattingcorner.com, or Lacis, lacis.com among many others.
Note: I was delighted to receive this book from my new friend, Hye-oon Lee. And I wish her success with it and look forward to seeing more of her work in the future. - G. Seitz
