Medication and Risks of Criminal Behavior and ADD

I hope that you had a wonderful week. I had a couple of days to relax and to look at reader requests. One of my readers wanted an article on a topic that I have avoided for awhile...criminal behavior and ADD.

Those of you who are long-term subscribers know that I think that ADD/ADHD is a mixed bag. Yes, there are some negative things about this brain difference. However, many of us are doing just fine, thank you very much! We have learned some coping skills. We have found ways to prioritize those things that are important to us, and we know how to let go of some things that others might find a problem to let slide. It's all a part of living with ADD! So, do I really want to talk about the link between criminal behavior and ADD. NO! I do not; however, with this new study, and my reader request, it's clear that now is the time to write an article about this sensitive topic.

What does ADD have to do with criminal behavior? Most people with Attention Deficit Disorder live decent and trustworthy lives. Would it surprise you to know that 25-40% of incarcerated criminals are believed to have ADD/ADHD? A study by the Karolinska Institute reveals the role of medication.
