Human Rights

November 5 2006 Human Rights Newsletter

Greetings and Salutations, all.

It's a wonderfully exquisite autumnal night out there and yes - my very favourite time of year. The candles are burning, I'm swathed in dark velvet shawls and enjoying a very fine cup of Lapsang Souchong, having just finished writing an article on the verdict handed down today against former Saddam Hussein.

This girl was confused frankly at the disparity of reaction in the street. And so, laptop in hand, I researched some of the factions existent in today’s culture that deal specifically with the rise and fall of Saddam Hussein, and in the process learned an important differentiation in Muslim Culture: Sunnis vs.Shiites, and why we should all understand the differences between the two, as well as how it factors into the diverse reactions of the verdict. The full text of the article can ne found here:

Death for Saddam - A Conflict of Justice?
Sentencing was imposed on former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, today. But in the streets of the Middle East, victory seems anything but imminent as protestors take to the street and your HR editor undertakes to find out why.

And with the advent of these darker months, getting out and about is somewhat sacrificed for more earthly comforts like firelight and candles and popcorn. Even from the comfort of my abode, I realized there are so many things each of us can do without ever having to move an inch. And thus, is the topic of my another article which can be found here:

Activate Yourself – Ten Things you can do NOW for Human Rights.
Get involved on a small scale and change the world, all from the comfort of your home.
