A long awaited book has arrived! My first book of tatting patterns published in the Chinese language. When I first heard of the book I was worried that this was a pirated edition. But I was so glad to learn that all copyrights have been honored and this is a compilation of three books in Japanese. These books were published in 2008, 2010 and 2011 by Sumi Fujishige.
You may recall from earlier book reports here on BellaOnline.com that Sumi Fushige is a talented tatting designer and her books are always lavishly photographed in color. Every project is presented clearly and most with variations. There are step by step instructional photos in full color plus black and white diagrams and even assembly directions when needed.
This cover for the Japanese book was used also on the Chinese language edition.
As I recall there is a set of numerals in it with a very simple pattern. These would be very useful for birthday and holiday gifts. And just think of a clock face with tatted numerals, that would be a perfect gift for a person who has everything!
I hope to find more tatting books in languages other than English. I think my reference library has books in English, Japanese, Russian, Polish, Czech, Dutch, Danish, French, German, Finnish, Estonian (in German translation), Spanish, Italian, Korean, Swedish and now Chinese!
2015 is swiftly drawing to a close. If you need an alphabet or number to tat for the new year, try this lovely cluny alphabet shared by Dagmar Pezzuto.
Or, if you are pressed for time, try the all rings with beads alphabet featured in the book review of Asahi Originals. "Lacework! Tatting Lace" is published by Applemints ©2013.
The letters of the alphabet are all tatted in rings with one shuttle. The bare thread space between the rings contains very petite beads. The letters are remarkably easy in construction but the bars and cross pieces, even the cedilla on the Q are cleverly done.
