PBA STAR CHRIS BARNES UNDERGOES GALL BLADDER SURGERY
Former PBA Player of the Year Chris Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, will be home for the holidays after undergoing gall bladder removal surgery Tuesday, according to a Facebook note posted by his wife, Lynda Barnes. The 14-time PBA Tour titlist had just returned home from the Qatar Open, where he finished 13th.
Barnes had been experiencing abdominal pain recently, and an ultrasound performed upon his return identified gall stones, Lynda Barnes reported. He was released from the hospital Thursday morning. Assuming no complications, Barnes said he expects to participate in the fifth annual Chris Paul PBA League All-Stars fundraiser on Jan. 7 in Los Angeles.
TICKETS ON SALE FOR CHRIS PAUL PBA LEAGUE ALL-STARS IN LOS ANGELES
Reminder: If you plan to be in Los Angeles on Monday, Jan. 7, tickets are on sale for the fifth annual Chris Paul PBA League All-Stars at Lucky Strike LA Live, across from the Staples Center where host Chris Paul plays basketball with the Los Angeles Clippers.
The annual fundraiser for the Chris Paul Foundation will get underway at 6:30 p.m. PT. Tickets range from a $250 VIP package including dinner and a meet-and-greet with Paul and a star-studded cast of friends, to a $100 premium package or $25 for general seating. PBA PLAYERS DOMINATE EUROPEAN BOWLING TOUR STANDINGS
American and international PBA members, led by England’s Dominic Barrett, dominated the final 2012 European Bowling Tour’s competition points. Barrett, who finished 10th in the Qatar Open - the final event of 2012 EBT season - won his second EBT points title. He also won in 2010 after finishing second in 2008 and 2009.
Finnish-American Mika Koivuniemi was second followed by Sweden’s Martin Larsen and American Mike Fagan in fourth place. Other PBA members among the top 10 were England’s Stuart Williams in sixth place, Finland’s Osku Palermaa in eighth, and Americans Sean Rash in ninth and Tommy Jones in 10th.
RASH TO CONDUCT SECOND BRUNSWICK BOWLING CAMP IN JUNE
PBA Player of the Year Sean Rash will conduct his second Brunswick Bowling Summer Camp at Brunswick Zone Romeoville near his Montgomery, Ill., home June 21-23. Fellow Brunswick staffers Parker Bohn III, Mike Machuga, Ronnie Russell and PBA Tour ball rep Chuck Gardner will be part of the staff. PBA REGIONAL ROUNDUP
● Lee Vanderhoef of Greenville, S.C., and Larry Felts of Moore, S.C., swept Dick Allen of Columbia, S.C., and Kenny Parks of Hammond, Ind., in the best-of three-game title match, 436-407 and 468-460, to win the PBA South Region’s Decker Appraisal Over/Under Doubles presented by Hammer at Wayne Lanes in Waynesboro, Va., on Sunday, Dec. 16.
The title was Felts’ first and Vanderhoef’s 12th in PBA Regional competition. They split a $3,500 first prize.
● John DiSantis of Wilmington, Del., defeated Bob Caruso of Dayton, N.J., 242-163 to win his first PBA East Region senior title in the Knob Hill Senior Open Sunday at Knob Hill Lanes in Manalapan, N.J..
● The only regional competition on the January schedule is the PBA Central Region Legend Lanes Regular/Senior Doubles Classic in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Jan. 25-27. Activity in the other PBA regions resumes in February.

● Reigning U.S. Open champions Pete Weber and Kelly Kulick participated in the annual Chicago Sun-Times/BPA “Beat the Champions” fundraising event in Chicago where they posted target scores which thousands of Chicago area league bowlers will try to beat (with handicap). As part of the event, Weber and Kulick threw strikes in the fifth and 10th frames worth $100 each, raising a combined $1,300 for charity. Kulick earned $800 for Project Restoration to benefit victims of Super Storm Sandy in New Jersey while Weber generated $500 for St. Joachim and St. Ann Care Service, an organization that helps St. Louis area homeless people get back on their feet.
● ESPN Classic will re-broadcast the finals of the 2012 PBA Tournament of Champions on Thursday, Dec. 27, at 3 p.m. ET followed by the 2012 U.S. Open finals at 4 p.m.
● Former PBA lane maintenance supervisor Lon Marshall died earlier in December after a lengthy illness at a nursing home in Michigan. No details surrounding his death were available, and at his request, no memorial or funeral services were held.
