Happy Almost New Year!
2017 is fading fast into the past. It is time to finish up those UFO's in your tatting bag and wind up new shuttles for the new year. Both needle and shuttle tatters will delight in the new books coming soon at a dealer near you.
Kimiko Chitose's "Almanac for Tatting" is a new book dear to my heart already. In the fifth book of the Ribbonwinners Series, "Tatting with Friends," Kimiko joined with me and about 80 other tatters to put together a book with so many patterns and styles that it was amazing even to me! Kimiko shared the largest and most elaborate piece in the book. It was a tablecloth! It is huge but so delicate (size 40 thread if I remember correctly.) This tablecloth is featured on the front cover of her book.
Unfortunately, the first edition SOLD OUT! But watch for it in the new year.
And Karey Solomon has a new book, too. "Close to My Heart" contains patterns for the cutest necklace and matching amulet bag patterns. They are tatted with beads and without, with fancy stitches and with good ol' rings and chains. Perfect little gifts for all occasions including Valentine's Day and weddings.
From Italy comes a new needle tatting book by Alicia Kwartnik, "Bordi con il chiacchierino ad ago." These are edgings designed for use with Aida or Hardanger cloth as they are combined with embroidery. The tatting is completed as normal and attached to the cloth at the edge (mostly) and then lines of cross stitch or other stitches are completed using the tatting needle itself! The full technique is completely covered in text and detailed photo tutorials.
"Our Tattinglace Story" is a joint project of five tatters from Korea. It has the most eye-catching use of bicolored tatted blocks! Although the minimal text is in Korean, the full-sized numbered diagrams and enlarged close up detail photos are marvelous. This will simplify the working of the patterns greatly. And scan codes are included for extra help.
And don't forget to think about attending a tat day event next year!
