Greetings, Today in History enthusiasts!

February is Black History Month, so this month, I'd like to focus my articles on African-American history, starting with the February 1 sit-in in Greensboro. Look for that article coming this week!

Sam Colt's Revolver (January 4, 1847)
After having a few setbacks in his early career as a gun designer and manufacturer, Samuel Colt rose to prominence in a time where guns were the most accurate weapons available. "Abe Lincoln set men free; Sam Colt made them equal."

Ganymede's Discovery (January 13, 1610)
During a time when disbelief in the ancient teachings of astronomy were punishable by death, Galileo Galilei dared to denounce the teachings of the Church and develop his own ideas and theories. His discoveries and inventions furthered modern astronomy, beginning with his discovery of Ganymede.
