Most people are familiar with the British super model, Kate Moss. But did you know that recently a painting with her as the nude model called "Naked Portrait 2002" sold for $9.53 million? I find it mindboggling. The artist is 82 year old Lucian Freud, on of Britain's greatest living artists. He is best known as a figurative painter. Kate Moss is not the first British super model Freud has painted. His painting, "Jerry Hall 1997" is of the former wife of Mick Jagger. Not only were both super models naked, they were also pregnant. It seem that Freud, who is the grandson of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, was reading an article about Kate Moss and she stated that she wanted to be painted by Freud. In my opinion, the painting is not flattering to Kate Moss. Undoubtedly, Lucian Freud has his own style of painting, which even when he painted himself naked, is honest in his portrayal and not at all forgiving. Personally, I think nudes such as those should be kept private, for someone near and dear. But to display them publicly and then sell them to the highest bidder, I find appalling.
