Tatting and Japan
Today I am grieving with the whole world at the terrible tragedy in Japan. Tatters online have a close association with the tatters in Japan. There are several tatting designers who have published many tatting pattern books in recent years.
I am thinking today of Toshiko Takashima who received a patent for a double hook tatting needle called "Takashima-bari" in 1978 and who published a book on Japanese hook needle tatting in the '70's and who still has 3 instruction books available.
I am hoping that the Yusai Shokoin of "Tatting Lace: A New Approach to Tatting," Hisayo Sugita of "Tatting Lace," Sumi Fujishige and Mistuko Ikuta who have both published 3 tatting books as well as Teiko Fugito of "Tatting: 101 Motifs and Edgings" are all well and far from harm's way.
All the members of the Japan Tatters Association are in my thoughts today and I hope to hear from some of the many tatters in Japan again soon.
