I have no idea who established our tatting celebration day as April 1, however, I remember reading about it first in Mary McCarthy's newsletter, "KNOTS!" I have celebrated every year since. Today tatters from around the world will gather to tat and chat and eat chocolate whenever possible. There are no patterns. There are no diagrams. Just close up detailed photos of the tatting. The experienced tatter will be able to recreate these designs without difficulty. The newer tatter may find this a worthwhile exercise in diagramming or writing patterns. The booklet is 8.5" x 11" and has 12 pages. There is no clue as to the designer nor the purpose of the book (original cover). It appears to me that it might even have been a "stock" book of patterns tatted for sale, although no price appears anywhere in the booklet. There are some familiar early 20th century style patterns and several uses of the "onion dome" rings (rings surrounded by rings or chains, please review: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art52553.asp) Nine doilies, two corners, several individual motifs and many edgings suitable for both needle and shuttle tatting.
