Nellie Hall Youngburg Blue Bird #28 pg 9

Forty Original Designs in Tatting By Nellie Hall Youngburg Novel and Unique Designs with Complete Instructions for Every Pattern Designed and Executed by Nellie Hall Youngburg, Brookings, SD© 1921. As a summer tatting project tatters in the Online Tatting Class have been rewriting and modernizing the patterns in this vintage tatting book. Diagrams and new models have been prepared to help the tatter follow the patterns more easily. Both the original public domain booklet and the new version are being posted online to share with all tatters everywhere.

Adapted from a 1916 pattern and re-written by Wally Sosa ©2001, this little bird has his own story. Well, at least, my story...

The original pattern is a old one, circa 1916. I encountered several problems understanding the pattern, so I worked and re-work ed the pattern until I understood it.

R: 8 / 2 / 8.

That means, make 8 ds, long picot (about 5/8"), make 2 ds, join to the long picot, make 8 ds more.

Repeat Ring until you have 4 petals. The last petal works like the other but before joining the picot to form the double picot, insert the picot through the picot in the bird's beak. Join the picot, make the last 8 ds clr. Finish ends.
