Tatting and International Women's Day March 8 is celebrated worldwide as International Women's Day. This year take time to share your love of tatting with another woman... or man. There are always opportunities to teach tatting. Cut out flat plastic tatting shuttles from recycled butter or cream cheese containers. Or stock up on plastic floss winders. Keep a few in a plastic bag in your purse or jacket pocket. Wind them up with a large thread size 10-20 to start. Use at least 2 colors. Next time you are in the waiting room for doctor or dentist bring out your shuttle and start to tat. Some one will always ask what you are doing and that is your cue to teach them them basics. Always start the new tatter out by showing them out to make the chain and use two colors. Using two colors makes any mistake immediately obvious. Send the temporary flat shuttles and thread home with them. Be sure to give them the contact info for your local tatting guild too. And don't hesitate to teach children, too. The pre-teens are quick to learn and eager to make tatted bracelets and necklaces. Teenage girls are quick to take an interest so they can make their own fashion statements.
