Well, Wrestlemania XXIV has come and gone and Flair has to retire. I waited to do this newsletter until today, Tuesday, April 1, 2008 so I could write about any eventful things that may have happened on Raw.
First, the results of Wrestlemania XXIV:
In a match that was only able to be viewed on a webcast before the show started, Kane won a 24 man Battle Royal by eliminating Mark Henry for the right to challenge ECW Champion, Chavo Guerrero later on the Wrestlemania card.
At the start of the show the 2008 Hall of Fame class was honored and noticeably missing was the Rock. He was there the night before to induct his father, Soulman Rocky Johnson and his grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia into the Hall of Fame.
The results of the card, in no particular order are: The Undertaker kept his Wrestlemania streak alive as he used a submission hold to defeat Edge to become the World Heavyweight Champion.
Batista defeated Umaga with an ugly power bomb to win the Brand Supremecy match.
Kane defeated Chavo Guerrero in less than ten seconds to win the ECW Championship belt. The bell sounded to start the match, Kane chokeslammed Chavo and pinned him and the bell sounded to end the match.
Melina and Beth Phoenix defeated Ashley and Maria in the Bunny Mania match that emcee'd by Rapper Snoop Dogg after Santino Marella interfered in the match. Jerry Lawler punched Santino in the face for his trouble and after making out with Maria in the ring after the match, Snoop Dogg let Santino have it with a punch to the grill as well.
Professional Boxer Floyd Mayweather defeated the Big Show by Knock out after Mayweather's entourage interfered in the match and Mayweather hit Show with a steel chair and then punched him in his jaw with a pair of brass knckles. On a personal note, Big Show could have easily won the match but he was toying with Mayweather too much and it cost him the match. (Yeah I know Show wasn't supposed to win but they could have made the match look better. As far as I am concerned, it did not live up to the hype, but then again, things rarely do in the WWE anymore.)
Randy Orton successfully defended the WWE title against John Cena and Triple H after Triple H nailed Cena with a pedigree and covered him for the pin but Orton ran over and kicked Triple H in the head and fell on Cena to get the pin fall.
JBL cleanly pinned Finlay in the Belfast Brawl match and pretty much dominated most of the match. Lastnight on Raw, JBL confronted Orton in the ring and challenged him to a title match. JBL left the ring and s Orton was trying to respond Matt Hardy came out of the crowd and attacked Orton.
Speaking of Matt Hardy, he came out of the crowd at Wrestlemania to stop MVP from grabbing the brief case in the Money In The Bank ladder match by giving MVP a Twist of Fate off top of a ladder. CM Punk won the match by grabbing the briefcase after putting Jericho in a tree of woe on the ladder.
And as expected, Shawn Michaels defeated Ric Flair after apologizing to him and then nailing him with a super kick and got the pin fall. Flair left the ring in tears as he waved good bye to everybody at the Citrus Bowl.
Some fans were taken to the hospital and treated for burns after a fireworks malfunction happened at the end of the show and TNA showed up to set up a booth at the Citrus Bowl and at the WWE Fan AXXCESS show across the street. The WWE called the invasion childish and a lame attempt to bring attention to themselves. That's pretty good coming from a company who drove an army tank to WCW headquarters a few years ago and were escorted out of the building by security.
Comparably, Wrestlemania XXIV was a pretty good show and I wasn't upset at spending the money to get it on pay-per-view this year.
On Monday Night Raw the next night, the show ended with Ric Flair's Farewell address and saying good-bye to people like JJ Dillon, Arn Anderson, Barry Windham, Dean Malenko, Ricky Steamboat, and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine whom all showed up and joined Flair in the ring. Then the rest of the WWE Superstars came out and stood by the ring and chanted "Thank You, Ric!" It was very emotional for Flair and his family.
Oh yeah, Santino Marella was attacked by all of the divas in the ring when he told Maria in a promo that the Divas should not be wrestling. They should be at home getting pregnant, he said. That was pretty funny stuff.
Well Friends and Fans, that is it for now. See you at the matches!!!
